Woman Alone on the Road

Anne Speirs
July 2011

Ann Speirs wrote the following inspirational note in July 2011. Not only does she travel alone, but she feels relaxed and secure enough to explore countries as far and as remote as Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

“I would like to thank all the contributors on your MagBaz Travels site who have given me such good information about travelling through various countries to Turkey.

I travel on my own in my Chausson Welcome 75 and have been motorhoming alone since 1992 when I bought my first van. I'm a Nanna to 3 little girls and this is the first time since 2003 that I've ventured back to long term travelling. However, apart from touring other countries in Europe this was the first time I have ventured alone into Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria into Turkey. I have had a wonderful time, albeit, a bit too hot. My plans were delayed, I should have been here in May! My house tenant decided to leave end of March!

I arrived 6th June  2011, travelled towards Istanbul, Ankara, and then proceeded in a clockwise fashion and am now near Ephesus. Now 17th July  and very hot. After I've visited Gallipoli etc I've decided to curtail my exploration of Greece until next spring, when hopefully I will be going through Albania - that is, when I've read through all the info I've just downloaded.

I have simply had no problems travelling on my own in these countries. People have been very helpful and I have also wild camped, although in very public places, and have not been asked to move once. The confidence was indeed given to me by information received on your site and I am extremely grateful that you were able to publish all this material in one place.

When I get organised, hopefully I will be able to contribute my travel information and hope more single people will feel the need to investigate these wonderful places.”

We look forward to more!
