There are now two places for the motorhomer and caravanner to camp very near the tourist centre of Istanbul, both on the edge of the Sea of Marmara where it meets the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus. It's an easy walk to the main historical attractions: the Topkapi Palaca, the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Agia Sofia, the Hippodrome, Galata Tower, Dolmache Palace, etc.

In June 2012, Pete Jenkins summarised the situation:

We headed for Kennedy Caddesi and the Fishermans Quai (N 41.00191 E 28.97743) where there is overnight parking available. We came in from the east over the Bosphorus bridge from Asia, so we were on the wrong side of the dual carriageway with no turn-off to get to the Quai. This means finding somewhere to double back along the road to reach the parking area, which you can see clearly from the road by a big white communication tower.

The cost here is ytl 30 p/n (about £11). It's a very noisy place, next to the dual carriageway on one side and the Bosphorus on the other with the constant noise of ships and ferries, but its location cannot be beaten. There's a nice view of the Blue Mosque from the parking area and you are no more than 15 minutes' walk from the Sultanahmet, the Grand Bazaar and all the other touristy bits. There is another otopark just down the road behind the sports complex (N 41.00253 E 28.96789) where you can stay but it didn't look as good as the Quai.

We stayed 3 nights on the Quai, which was enough really, but it's such an amazing atmospheric place. We'll always remember it.”

In September 2012, Mahmut Kukurt, the manager of the Sports Stadium site gave us the following information:
"The caravan and motorhome park in the centre of Istanbul is clean and safe. The facilities include the following: hot showers, washer, 24-hour security, clean water, electric, WC and cassette toilet emptying. It is only 500 metres from the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. The total cost for access to all these facilities is 20 euro per night.

The Address: Municipality Football Sports Court, Kennedy Caddesi, Fatih, Kumkapi, Istanbul (see the map below).

To Find the Campsite: Drive the Kennedy Boulevard. From the west, pass the fish markets to the sports complex on the right.

Earlier, in November 2011, Angela and David Lodge wrote:

"There has evidently been a big change to the motorhome parking facility on Kennedy Caddesi since the earlier part of this year. There is a new building, which is shared with the footballers using the adjacent floodlit Astroturf pitch, containing 3 unisex toilets and washbasins, plus 8 showers (also unisex, although it's best not to use them when a game is in progress!) Hook-up is available, as are fresh water and emptying facilities, but nowhere for clothes or dishwashing. The area has been cleared, is very tidy and is block paved .It is exclusively for the use of motorhomes. Pop-up bollards prevent unauthorised access. No wi-fi but this is available in the fish restaurants approx 100 metres away. The cost is 20 Euros per night, but what a location!!! There is probably space for about 14 motorhomes, although there were only 4 of us in early October.

Co-ordinates are N 41.00205  E 28.97673."
