OVERNIGHT PARKING IS LEGAL IN GERMANY

Margaret Williamson
January 2015

In December 2014 we received the following useful information from motorhomer Heide Haake in Herne, Germany:

“Of course it's nice to stay on the affordable 'Stellplätze' in Germany, because you definitely feel welcome there. But you are allowed legally to park for one night on any public car park or space (Parkplatz) marked 'P'. Reason - to gain fitness for driving further ('zur Wiederherstellung der Fahrtüchtigkeit'). Parking is not Camping. If parking is not allowed, there will be a sign. If there is not a 'no parking' sign - it is allowed!”

Thank you Heide for confirming this in such a clear and logical way. We had read a similar claim in a German motorhome magazine. If only the British were so accommodating!
