Camping in Turkey near Istanbul and Ankara

Following
a summer motorhome tour of Turkey, Jeff Thompson provided the following very useful
information on camping near Istanbul and near Ankara. He is also reassuring
about wild camping in Turkey. Jeff wrote:
Mistik Camping near
Istanbul

“In Istanbul we stayed 3 nights at Kilyat or
Mistik Camping in Kilyos, north of Istanbul, a 'few' blocks from the Black Sea
coast. It seems to be called both names, on different maps. It has a basic web
page at mistikcamping.com which says it
is 100 metres from the beach, and that it is 45 min by bus to Istanbul. Neither
one is correct. I would say it is more like 500 m to the beach, and the 45 min
bus ride just gets you to the closest Metro stop - then it's another 40 min by
subway to the centre of tourist stuff. We paid 18 euros per night for a camper
van and 2 people. It is very basic, sometimes no water in the showers. It does
have enough shade to survive.”
Ulasan Hotel and
Camping near Ankara

“In
Ankara we stayed 2 nights in the Ulasan Hotel campsite south of Ankara - bad
for mosquitoes. They have a nice pool but watch out - they close it at 6 pm.
Classy restaurant - good but pricey. No public transportation from there to the
centre of Ankara, can take a taxi 2-3 km to get to a bus. I have a small van so
we just drove in and parked and walked.”
Wild Camping
“In
the rest of Turkey, mostly we wild camped and were not bothered in any way.”
