Green Zones in Europe (Ian Manzie) PDF Printable Version

Old friend and fellow motorhomer, Ian Manzie, has shared the following information and very useful links, discovered while he was preparing a motorhome journey from France to Norway. We don't know which will confound motorhomers the most in a future Europe: the strictures of 'Brexit' or the restrictions on large diesel-guzzling engines!

Legal entry restrictions and the introduction of new environmental badges are on the increase in Europe

Due to ever-higher particulate matter and nitrogen oxide pollution in the cities and local communities, regional entry restrictions and environmental zones increasingly dominate the European traffic. The EU Air Quality Directive 2008/50/EG, which has been in effect since 11/06/2008 is the basis for the aversion of health threats caused by particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide.

This directive has resulted in national rules and regulations, which are then implemented either regionally or nationally in the countries of the EU, or are applied in the cities and communities by complex national or local special regulations or exemptions.

Green-Zones shows therefore to commercial and tourist traffic on the European Roads, which environmental zones exist in which countries and which regional arrangements and exceptions are valid and which environmental badges and stickers are required for entry. These badges can also be purchased with us, as to avoid the sometimes very high fines for the unauthorized entering of the environmental zones.

The challenges faced by commercial and logistics traffic, as well as by tourist bus traffic and private traffic in Europe are increasing. When, where and how will new environmental zones be introduced in European cities? And what norms must be taken into account when driving through them?

The mere purchase of an environmental badge or vignette in Europe, in itself, is often not enough. In many cases, what matters is the knowledge about which class of which badge or vignette can drive, currently, through which type of environmental zone, and during which days and times what types of vehicles must take driving bans into account in order not to receive significant fines.

For this reason, Green-Zones provides information about environmental zones and the necessary badges to drive through them by means of its different Internet portals, with more than 40 pages in nearly 20 languages.

All services to which Green-Zones clients have access by means of the purchase of an environmental badge can be found here: Info Flyer 1,5 MB. Detailed information and conditions of use for the Green-Zones app for European environmental zones can be found here.
