TV STANDARDS WORLDWIDE

Here is a brief summary of the analogue TV standards to be expected thorughout Europe and the rest of the world. You will see tha it is just no use taking your British TV set with you!

PAL I UK, Ireland and Hong Kong

PAL B/G Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, etc

SECAM L France only

SECAM D/K USSR, China, some former Eastern European Countries

NTSC USA

There can be partial overlap. For example a UK standard (PAL I) may pick up the picture but not the sound of PAL B/G.

I guess that going digital will change all this, in the next year or three.
